CFL Week 8 Betting Picks 2025

A new week of the Canadian Football season is here and these CFL Week 9 Betting Picks 2025 represent our favorite plays from another exciting slate.

Through eight games this season the distance between the top two teams in each division continues to widen. The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders still own the top two spots in the West. Meanwhile, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Montreal Alouettes are tied for first in the East, three games up on the Toronto Argonauts in third place.

Despite a couple of mismatches, the books have still given us plenty to work with this week. Here’s what we like the most from each game.

CFL Week 9 Betting Picks 2025

Ottawa Redblacks +4.5 vs Calgary Stampeders (-110 via DraftKings)

The Redblacks had high hopes for their 2025 campaign after making the playoffs last year for the first time since the 2018 season. However, after a 1-6 start to the year, Ottawa fans will be lucky to see their team finish above the .500 mark. They haven’t been effective against the spread either clocking in at 2-5 ATS this season. However, they entered as the favorites in two of those matchups but were unable to come away with the win.

Calgary saw a three-game winning streak come to an end last week in a 23-21 loss to the Montreal Alouettes. Even still, the Stamps are 5-2 on the year and have the same record against the spread. Although, they have been the favorite in two of their games this season and failed to cover in either.

Despite their struggles, the Redblacks have won their last four contests against the Stampeders. Ottawa has also covered the spread in all four. These teams met last in Week 3 with the Redblacks as 3-point underdogs. Ottawa not only covered that spread, but walked away with a 20-12 win. BetMGM has the best price (+188) if you want to double up on Ottawa on the moneyline.

Toronto Argonauts Over Winnipeg Blue Bombers (+235 via Caesars)

It’s been a rough start to the season for the defending Grey Cup champions. Their 2-5 record has them in third place in the East, barely a game above Ottawa for last place. They picked up their second win on the year last week in a 31-17 demolition of the Bombers. It was Toronto’s fourth straight win against Winnipeg including their Grey Cup meeting.

The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 start, but have dropped their last three games. On top of that, their quarterback Zach Collaros missed the second half of last week’s game with an undisclosed injury. There is no word yet as to whether or not he will miss this week. If he does, backup Chris Streveler will likely draw the start.

Prior to this back-to-back matchup with the Argos, the Blue Bombers lost two straight games to the Calgary Stampeders.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Edmonton Elks Over 54.5 (-105 via BetMGM)

Hamilton has put together a solid start to the season with a 5-2 record. The Ticats are scoring a league-best 32.1 points per game this year and have accumulated the most points in the league. They sit mid-pack on defense, allowing an average of 27 points per game this season. So far on the year the Tiger-Cats are 4-3 on the Over including their combined 70 points last week with the BC Lions.

Edmonton has struggled out of the gates, limping to a 1-5 record which lands them last in the East division. Their offense hasn’t enjoyed much success as they are contributing just 21.3 points per game this year. On the other hand, teams haven’t had a problem scoring on the Elks as they are surrendering the most points per game (31.8) in the league. Edmonton is 4-2 on the over this year.

These teams have soared past this total in each of their last two matchups scoring 69 and 72 points in their 2024 contests.

Montreal Alouettes Over Saskatchewan Roughriders (+126 via FanDuel)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have staked an early claim on the West division posting a 6-1 record through their first seven games. The Riders went 4-0 to start the season before dropping their Week 6 matchup against the Calgary Stampeders. They have since rebounded to win their last two games.

Montreal is currently tied with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with a 5-2 record for a share of the top spot in the East division. The Als started their season 3-0 before losing their next two games. They also enter this matchup on a two game winning streak.

What tips the scales here is the fact that Montreal has beaten Saskatchewan in their last three meetings and four of their last five. Expect that trend to continue in a tightly contested battle between two first place teams.
