Handball-Bundesliga Round 18 Betting Picks
Handball is a popular sport overseas with several leagues in action around the globe. Not to mention a spot in the Summer Olympics.
The game is an exciting hybrid of basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. It’s fast paced with all the action, and physicality you expect to see in a hockey game only without the ice and the padding.
If you haven’t already, I highly suggest you check out a few matches on the Handball World YouTube page. You will not regret it.
Handball-Bundesliga is a German organization and is one of the many leagues currently in season. It’s also one of the many leagues being offered on several sportsbooks including Hard Rock and BetMGM.
The following Handball -Bundesliga Betting Picks: Round 18 odds are current as of 7 p.m. Pacific on February 6th.
Handball-Bundesliga Round 18 Betting Picks
THW Kiel over SC Magdeburg (+110 via Hard Rock)
Saturday, February 8th, 11:30 a.m. Pacific
THW has won seven straight matches in the Bundesliga heading into this weekend’s contest. That win streak extends to ten in a row when you add their DHB Pokal and European League victories in that span. The 2019-2020 Bundesliga champions have amassed 13 wins while suffering only 4 losses this season and sit in third place overall in the standings.
Meanwhile, Magdeburg is currently sixth in the standings with ten wins, one draw, and three losses on the season. They are 3-1-1 over their last five matches in the Bundesliga. However, SCM suffered through a rough patch losing four matches in a row in mid-November. This includes a 29-28 loss to Kiel in a DHB Pokal match.
Kiel has won the last three head-to-head matches against SCM. BetMGM is offering THW to win at +105 on the moneyline, so grabbing a little bigger number on this at Hard Rock is a much better deal.
Rhein-Neckar Löwen over HSV Hamburg (-105 via Hard Rock)
Sunday, February 9th, 6:00 a.m. Pacific
Rhein-Neckar enters this round riding the momentum of a three match winning streak. In fact, RNL have won nine of its last nine matches including their two DHB Pokal contests in that span. The Löwen have amassed 10 wins and suffered 6 losses on the season and are seventh in standings.
Hamburg has won four of its last seven matches, however, they have managed only one of those in their last four. They sit in eleventh place in the standings with six wins, seven losses and one draw. On top of that, they have allowed the third most points in the league and have accrued a -18 point differential in the process.
The Löwen have taken two of three of the last head-to-head matches against Hamburg going back to December of 2023.
HSG Wetzlar over SG BBM Bietigheim (+135 via BetMGM)
Sunday, February 9th, 7:30 a.m. Pacific
Wetzlar endured a rocky finish to 2024 as they lost five of their last seven matches to close out the year. As a result, they find themselves 13th in the standings with 6 wins and 11 losses on the season.
On the other hand, SG BBM has had an even worse stretch entering this round winless in their last eight matches. Overall, they have come away with just 3 wins in 17 total matches this season with two draws added to the mix. To make matters worse, they have not won a match since October 31st of last year.
That last win came at the expense of HSG Wetzlar in a 26-21 match. However, the losses have piled up for SG BBM since then and probably should not be the favorites this week.
TBV Lemgo Lippe over ThSV Eisenach (+135 via BetMGM)
Monday, February 10th, 10:00 a.m. Pacific
Lemgo comes into this round having lost five of their last six matches. TBV is tenth in the standings with eight wins and eight losses on the season. To make matters worse, they have scored the third-fewest points in the league so far.
Eisenach has an identical win-loss record as their Round 18 opponent, however, they have won three of their last five matches. ThSV is two spots above Lemgo in the standings.
While all signs may point to an easy Eisenach win, Lemgo has dominated this team and hasn’t lost in a head-to-head contest in almost 22 years. In March of 2003, Eisenach walked off the floor with a 29-28 victory. Since then, Lemgo has ripped off eight wins in their next ten games with two draws in the mix.
The books have overlooked this part of the handicap which offers a great opportunity to take advantage of this value.
