Round 8 of Aussie Rules Football (AFL) is here! We went 2-2 last week, bringing our current 2025 record to 17-12. Let’s stay on the winning side of things this week. Here are my favorite Aussie Rules Football Round 8 picks!
If you’re wondering if you need an offshore book to bet on Aussie Rules Football, you don’t! You can get lines right at DraftKings and FanDuel. This isn’t rugby for those unfamiliar with the odd-shaped football, bigger-sized football, lack of pads, and massive field. For a complete breakdown of Aussie Rules football, check out this page.

Aussie Rules Football Round 8 Best Bets, Picks, and Predictions
(5) Adelaide Crows (-10.5 on DraftKings) vs. (12) Carlton Blues
Saturday, 5/3/25 at 2:15 AM ET (Friday 5/2/25 11:15 PM Pacific)
The fifth-ranked Adelaide Crows take on the 12th-ranked Carlton Blues on Saturday. The Crows have gone 4-3 so far in 2025, and Carlton is 3-4.
Adelaide is coming off a poor performance, losing to Fremantle 85-67. A potential bounce-back is why I love this game in my Aussie rules football picks for round 8. Carlton is coming off a nice win against Geelong. Carlton has actually won their last three games after starting 0-4.
However, two of those last three wins were against the Eagles and the Kangaroos, two of the worst teams in the league. I expect Adelaide to be ready to bounce back and limit the Blues’ scoring opportunities.
This one is one you can’t overthink. Three weeks ago, Adelaide would have been favored close to the twenties. That feels like how the game will go this week.

(1) Collingwood Magpies (-11.5) vs. (7) Geelong Cats
Saturday, 5/3/25 at 5:35 AM ET (2:35 AM Pacific)
This is going to be a really fun matchup to watch and to bet on in our Aussie Rules football round 8 picks. The number one team, the Collingwood Magpies, take on the number seven Geelong Cats. Collingwood has only dropped one game this year, while Geelong sits at 4-3.
Geelong is coming off a tough loss to the Carlton Blues. It’s a game they should have won. However, give Carlton credit for playing them tough. Don’t expect Collingwood to play any less tough against them. Geelong Cats’ coach Chris Scott will have a great game plan cooked up for this one. I just don’t know if it will be enough.
Nick Daicos and Steele Sidebottom have been playing lights out, and it will likely be too much for the Cats to keep up with. I can’t fade the Magpies, who are the current favorites to win it all. It’s especially hard to fade them at MCG Stadium.

(14) Sydney Swans vs. (6) GWS Giants (-9.5)
Saturday, 5/3/25 at 11:10 PM ET (9:10 PM Pacific)
The 2-5 Sydney Swans take on the 4-3 GWS Giants, and I’m left scratching my head wondering why this is only a 9.5-point spread. Sydney has dropped three straight to Collingwood, Port Adelaide, and Gold Coast. Meanwhile, the Giants have dropped two straight to Adelaide and the Bulldogs.
The Swans have had terrible luck when it comes to injuries and have been unable to put many points on the board. They’re currently fifth to last in total scores for the season. The Giants started their season stronger than they’ve been playing recently.
However, the Giants are a healthier team and are looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss. I think they bounce back in a big way this week. They have a top defensive unit, and it feels like they’ll really shut down the attack of the Swans.

(2) Brisbane Lions (-9.5 on FanDuel) vs. (3) Gold Coast Suns
Sunday, 5/4/25 at 5:20 AM ET (2:20 AM Pacific)
This is my favorite game this week in the Aussie football round 8 picks. Number two versus number three. The storied franchise of the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns. Each of these teams only has one loss, and they’ll both fight to make sure it stays at just one loss.
This is going to be a heated battle between two teams that don’t like each other. This game is considered the Q-Clash, and the winner will be in (or remain in) second place. The Suns’ start has been more surprising than the Lions since the Lions always have high expectations. However, four of their five wins have come against teams sitting 14th or lower.
Their only other win, against Adelaide, was so close it could have gone either way. The Lions, on the other hand, have already defeated two currently top-eight teams. Their only defeat was against the number one team, the Magpies.
This one could go either way, and I can’t fault you for siding with either of these teams. However, the Lions are already battle-tested. After this game, the Suns will be too, I just don’t see them keeping pace. If this were in the 14.5 range, I’d be taking the Suns. However, it’s not.
