Round 12 of Aussie Rules Football (AFL) is here! Last weekend is exactly how we wanted to bounce back. 4-1, including finishing 4-0 on the week after our 0-1 start on the early game. Our season record is now 23-20. Here are my favorite Aussie Rules Football Round 12 picks!

Aussie Rules Football Round 12 Best Bets, Picks, and Predictions
(2) Collingwood Magpies (-8.5) vs. (6) Hawthorn Hawks
Friday, 5/30/25 at 5:40 AM ET (2:40 AM Pacific)
The first game for our Aussie Rules football Round 12 picks is the number two Collingwood Magpies against the number six Hawthorn Hawks. This should be a great game and a tough matchup, however, I do think one of these teams has a significant advantage.
The Magpies have been on an absolute tear. They’ve only lost two games all year. They lost their opener to the GWS Giants before pouring it on and winning six straight. Then they lost to Geelong by three, before winning the next three. Winning nine of the last ten isn’t too bad at all.
Hawthorn has had success this year as well, even if it isn’t to the extent of Collingwood. They opened with three wins before losing games to Port Adelaide and Geelong. They won the next three before losing three against Gold Coast and Brisbane. Their pattern of winning three, losing two, winning three, losing two has me slightly concerned. However, Collingwood is the superior team.
Can Collingwood slow Josh Daicos? That’ll be the question they’ll need to answer in order to put Hawthorn away. The Magpies have one of the league’s best defenses and a top-five offense. However, it’s the system that they have in place that has been driving their success.
One last nugget that may sway you to fade me (and that’s okay). The Hawks have won 15 of the last 19 against the Magpies. I just can’t fade Collingwood right now.
Aussie Rules Football Round 12 picks for this match: Collingwood (-8.5)
(3) Gold Coast Suns (-16.5) vs. (9) Fremantle Dockers
Friday, 5/30/25 at 11:20 PM ET (8:20 PM Pacific)
The next game on the Aussie Football round 12 picks is the Gold Coast Suns against the Fremantle Dockers. Fremantle opened the season with two losses against Geelong and Sydney. They won the next three before losing to Melbourne, and then beating Adelaide. The Dockers lost two in a row to St. Kilda and Collingwood. However, it was a close game with Collingwood. They’ve now won their last two, including a big upset over the GWS Giants.
That all sounds great. However, the Gold Coast Suns have had such a strong year. They opened up the year with four wins before a fluke loss to Richmond. They’ve now won four of their last five, with the only loss being to a strong Brisbane team.
Fremantle is pushing to get in the top eight, but the Suns stand in their way. The Suns do rank last in the league in disposals allowed to general defenders. However, that’s because they’re swarming the forwards.
All eyes will be on Leo Lombard, who debuted for the Suns last week and had a 21-disposal game. This game will all depend on which Dockers team shows up. They beat a strong team in the GWS Giants, but they’ve also lost by 61 points to St. Kilda. Home-field advantage may be the deciding factor in this one.
Aussie Rules Football Round 12 picks for this match: Gold Coast Suns (-16.5)
(4) Adelaide Crows (-6.5) vs. (13) Sydney Swans
Saturday, 5/31/25 at 5:35 AM ET (2:35 AM Pacific)
Our third game for our the Aussie Rules Football Round 12 picks is the Adelaide Crows against the Sydney Swans. It’s been a rough year for the 13th-placed Swans, and getting into the top eight at this point seems very unlikely.
They started with two losses before notching two wins. However, after that, they lost four of the next five. They’re coming off a 131-78 loss to Melbourne, who rank 11th and play far worse than the Crows do.
Speaking of the Crows, they’ve been playing really well. They lost two of their first three games. Since then, they’ve won seven of the last eleven. Three of those losses were to strong teams like Geelong (19-point loss), Collingwood (10-point loss), and Gold Coast (1-point loss).
They’ve played the good teams closely and deserve to be getting more than just 6.5 points. That’s why this game is my AFL Smash play of the week. Don’t overthink this one.
Aussie Rules Football Round 12 picks for this match: Adelaide Crows (-6.5)
(14) St. Kilda Saints vs. (11) Melbourne Demons (-12.5)
Sunday, 6/1/25 at 1:20 AM ET (Saturday – 10:20 PM Pacific)
The last game to discuss on our Aussie Rules Football Round 12 picks is between two teams in the bottom half, the St. Kilda Saints and the Melbourne Demons. It’s been a rough year for Melbourne, despite the fact that they’ve been playing better recently. They lost their first five games. Now they’ve won five of the last six games, including an upset win over Brisbane.
We used to like backing St. Kilda as dogs, but those days are done. They’ve lost five of the last six after winning the first three. It’s as if these teams switched spots, where one started hot and the other cold, and they’ve flipped it around. So are you banking on the Saints to turn it around or backing the hot hand of the Demons?
The Demons have a small chance at making the top eight, but they need to win this game in a strong fashion. They’ve changed their pace to moving the ball much quicker, and it’s been paying off. This is another one where it’s hard to question. As I mentioned, we liked St. Kilda as dogs to start the year, but they fell off a cliff and fell off it hard.

Bonus pick: Geelong Cats (-38.5) over West Coast
