Gallagher Premiership Rugby Round 16 Betting Picks

Sale Sharks Over Leicester Tigers (+190 via ESPN BET)

Friday, May 9th, 11:45 a.m. Pacific

Sale has rocketed to third place in the standings on the strength of a four match winning streak that extends back to late March. The Sharks are one point up on the Bristol Bears for the final spot in the playoffs. They are 10-0-5 on the season and have the fourth-best point differential in the league. More importantly, they have won their last six head-to-head matchups in the Premier League dating back to the 2022 season.

Leicester has done well for themselves this year and are sitting in second place in the standings. The Tigers are two points above the Sharks with a 9-1-5 record this season. They have won their last two matches heading into this round. However, those wins have come against the eighth-place Harlequins and a struggling Bristol Bears franchise. Round 13 saw Leicester lose a 29-22 battle against the sixth place Saracens.

Both ESPN BET and Hard Rock are offering this price for the Sharks to pick up their seventh Premier League win against the Tigers. DraftKings has it slightly lower at +175.

Newcastle Falcons +29.5 vs. Saracens (-110 via BetMGM)

Saturday, May 10th, 7:00 a.m. Pacific

It’s been a season to forget for Newcastle. The Falcons are currently in last place in the standings and have won only two matches this year. To make matters worse, they have a -311 point differential over the course of their 15 matches.

However, Newcastle has been beaten by at least 31 points in only four of their 13 losses this season. Outside of their 36-point shelling at the hands of Bath last round, the Falcons have lost two of their last three matches by a combined three points.

This spread seems excessive given Saracens are barely 8-7 this year. Not to mention, they currently own a -13 point differential heading into this match. So far their largest margin of victory came by way of a 22 point win in Round 14 against Gloucester. On top of that, they are scoring an average of 25.8 points this year. It’s difficult to outscore an opponent by 31 points when your team has trouble consistently reaching that mark on its own.

Another thing working in Newcastle’s favor is the fact that the Falcons took home a 17-12 win the last time these teams met in Round 7 last November. That alone is not enough to warrant an outright here as a +2000 payout is highly tempting. However, you can take the points and still be happy, win or lose.

Bath Over Bristol Bears (+138 via BetMGM)

Saturday, May 10th, 7:05 a.m. Pacific

Bath is number one with a bullet in the standings. They have lost only two matches this season and are sporting a +238 point differential on the year. On top of that, they have won their last five matches heading into their Round 16 matchup.

Bristol is on the wrong end of a three-match losing streak. The last of which came at the hands of the seventh-place Northampton Saints. These losses have sunk the Bears to an 8-7 record and puts them only one point ahead of Gloucester for the fourth and final playoff spot.

The wrong team is the underdog in this matchup so grabbing them at that price is a great value. Get in now before the books adjust.

Gloucester Over Harlequins (+190 via Hard Rock)

Saturday, May 10th, 9:30 a.m. Pacific

It has been a rollercoaster ride for Gloucester over the last few rounds. Their last time out, they destroyed the Exeter Chiefs in a 79-17 rout. The round prior saw them lose 36-14 to the sixth-place Saracens. Prior to that, they laid a convincing beating to Bristol, sending the Bears away with a 53-28 trouncing.

Harlequins are on the ropes after dropping three straight matches heading into this round. They are fresh off of a 40-7 loss to Leicester in the last round as well as a 43-29 loss to Sale the round before. They have failed to score a victory against Gloucester in two of their three previous head-to-head meetings.

Every point matters for Gloucester as they sit a single point behind Bristol for the final playoff spot. Expect them to continue to claw away at the Bears to keep their postseason alive.

Northampton Saints Over Exeter Chiefs (+130 via Caesars)

Sunday, May 11th, 7:00 a.m. Pacific

Northampton enters Round 16 having won two of its last three matches. The Saints are 7-8 this season and are nine points out of fourth place with three rounds to go before the playoffs. Their last win was a big one as they handed the Bears their third straight loss with a 48-31 victory.

Exeter currently sits as the second to last side on the table with only three wins on the season. They also own the second-worst point differential in the league having given up 147 more points than they have scored this year. The Chiefs take the pitch this weekend still stinging from a 62-point dismantling by Gloucester in the last round.

Northampton has beaten Exeter in each of their last three head-to-head matchups. This includes their Round 2 meeting in which the Saints handed the Chiefs a 30-24 loss. Again we find another team that should be the favorite at an underdog price.
