AFL Round 6 Best Bets, Picks and Predictions
Essendon Bombers (-25.5 on DraftKings) vs. West Coast Eagles
Friday, 4/18/25 at 4:10 AM ET (12:10 AM Pacific)
Our AFL Round 6 picks start with Essendon and West Coast. Essendon is coming off a big win over Melbourne, 96-57. The week before that, they defeated Port Adelaide, 72-60. After two losses to start the season against Hawthorn and Adelaide, it looks like the Bombers may have gotten back on track.
Things haven’t been as smooth for the West Coast Eagles. They’ve lost to Gold Coast, Brisbane, Fremantle, GWS Giants, and Carlton. Not only have they lost, but they’ve lost by a margin of 589 points to 293. Averaging just 58.6 points per game isn’t going to cut it against any team.
This game is being played at Optus Stadium, where West Coast has lost eight of their last nine. The Bombers have beaten the Eagles in the last two games against each other, and the Bombers, coming off a big win over Melbourne, should fuel their confidence.
The Bombers will be without Nick Bryan due to an ACL injury, but this team has a lot of depth, and it shouldn’t cause too many issues. While both of these teams are younger and still building, the Bombers are further along than the Eagles. Don’t overthink this one, despite the big spread.
AFL Round 6 picks for this match: Essendon Bombers (-25.5)
Fremantle Dockers (-18.5 on ESPNBet) vs. Melbourne Demons
Friday, 4/18/25 at 11:20 PM ET (8:20 PM Pacific)
Next up on our Round 6 AFL picks list is Fremantle against Melbourne. Like Essendon, Fremantle is a team that opened the season with two losses. They lost to Geelong, 147-69, and Sydney, 68-65. However, since then, they’ve had their foot on the gas, winning three in a row. They defeated West Coast, the Western Bulldogs, and Richmond.
Melbourne’s season has been a lot different. They started this year with a really close loss to the GWS Giants, 77-74. However, since then, they’ve been blown out by North Melbourne, Gold Coast, Geelong, and Essendon. They are trending in the wrong direction, only scoring a combined total of 103 points in the last two games.
Melbourne is scoring the second-fewest points per game behind only West Coast. They’re also allowing an average of around 100 points per game. Fremantle, on the other hand, has really found its stride in the last few games.
Sometimes we overthink these picks because they seem too easy. This one is easy, and you should take advantage of it. Why this isn’t north of 24 points for the spread is beyond me.
AFL Round 6 picks for this match: Fremantle Dockers (-18.5)
Sydney Swans (-13.5 on DraftKings) vs. Port Adelaide Power
Sunday, 4/20/25 at 1:20 AM ET (Saturday 10:20 PM Pacific)
The next game I’m looking at for my AFL Round 6 picks is the Sydney Swans and the Port Adelaide FC. The best way to describe the Swans’ season so far is up and down. They lost to Hawthorn and Brisbane, then beat Fremantle and North Melbourne, and last weekend in Round 5, they were crushed by Collingwood.
Though Port Adelaide has been about the same. They lost to Collingwood in Round 1, 136-45, before beating Port Adelaide, 140-68. Then they lost to Essendon and St. Kilda, before beating Hawthorne last week. Just because they beat Hawthorne and Sydney lost to them, it doesn’t automatically mean Port Adelaide is the better team.
It’s really hard to trust Port Adelaide at this point, even after that win last week. Last year, the Swans were one of the better teams and have fallen off in 2025. However, I think they’re starting to build on their season nicely.
The Swans have lost both home games this year, but were 11-2 in their last 13 games at this venue. I feel like this is the game they use to get back on track.
AFL Round 6 picks for this match: Sydney Swans (-13.5)
St. Kilda Saints (+10.5 on FanDuel) vs. Western Bulldogs
Sunday, 4/20/25 at 5:20 AM ET (2:20 AM Pacific)
Our AFL Round 6 picks bring us to the next game of the St. Kilda Saints vs. the Western Bulldogs. St. Kilda is trying to keep itself in the top eight, while the Bulldogs are just trying to keep themselves from the bottom.
The Western Bulldogs won in Round 1 and Round 3 against North Melbourne and Carlton. They’ve lost their other games to Collingwood, Fremantle, and Brisbane. In Round 1, they scored 113 points but have failed to get over 100 since then.
St. Kilda let us down last week, losing to the GWS Giants. It was their first loss since Round 1 when they lost to Adelaide. In between Round 1 and Round 5, they defeated Geelong, Richmond, and Port Adelaide.
This is a big matchup for St. Kilda, and I think they can rally from last week’s loss. They still have a ton of injuries in guys such as Max King, Dan Butler, Hunter Clark, Paddy Dow, and Dougal Howard. Although they may get Liam O’Connell back from a concussion.
The Bulldogs also have injuries. They’ll be without Adam Treloar and Cody Weightman. The Bulldogs will likely be leading at half, but they’ve tended to collapse in the second half. This has moneyline potential for St. Kilda as well, but at +135, I’m just riding with the points.
AFL Round 6 picks for this match: St. Kilda Saints (+10.5).
Bonus Bet: I also like Geelong Cats (-1.5 on FanDuel) to defeat Hawthorn.
