Bahrain Grand Prix Underdog Fantasy Picks 2025

The Formula 1 season continues in the Persian Gulf this week with the Bahrain Grand Prix. This race is set for 57 laps around the Bahrain International Circuit. At just over three miles (5.412 km), this course features three DRS zones, and 15 corners.

This week’s picks will focus on two drivers with two different expectations. One is hoping to find his way back to the podium and give his new team their first top 3 finish of the season. The other is just trying to stay in the sport after being demoted following a disappointing start to the year.

To play Underdog Fantasy, all you need to do is choose whether a driver will finish better than or worse than their projected finishing positions. It’s as simple as that. The more selections you make, the higher your multiplier will get, increasing the amount of money you stand to win.

Lewis Hamilton better than 5.5

It hasn’t been the start to the season that Lewis Hamilton has hoped for in his maiden voyage with Ferrari. The British Formula 1 legend has yet to finish inside of the top 5 in his first three races this year. However, he did cross the finish line sixth in China only to have that effort nullified by a penalty.

The good news for Lewis is that he is running a circuit that has been very kind to him over the years. He’s made 17 starts in Bahrain in his storied career. Of those, he has finished inside of the top 5 in 14 of them. Last season, he missed this mark by just two spots crossing the finish line in seventh.

Ferrari has also been fast on this course over the last few seasons. Teammate Charles Leclerc won this race in 2022 and finished fourth last year. Former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz logged a top 5 finish in each of his last three seasons here.

This is as good a spot as any for the Prancing Ponies to find their way back to the front. Hamilton gives them the best shot this week at finding the podium for the first time this season which puts him heavily in play to blow past this mark.

Liam Lawson worse than 11.5

Another driver on the struggle bus is Liam Lawson who lost his ride at Red Bull after just two races. Lawson began the season as Max Verstappen’s teammate on the varsity squad. However, after two races in which he failed to finish in the points, he was swapped with Yuki Tsunoda in the Racing Bulls stable. Last week, he failed to improve his situation, finishing 17th in Japan.

Lawson has made 14 career starts in Formula 1 with a 13.3 average finish. It has been six starts since his last finish of 11th place or better. Making things even more difficult for him is that he has yet to take on the Bahrain International Circuit as an F1 driver.

Over the last four seasons, Tsunoda is the only Alpha Tauri/VCARB driver to log a finish better than 11.5 place. The Japanese driver accomplished this in three of his four career starts at this circuit.

With the recent success of rookies like Racing Bulls teammate Isack Hadja as well as Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, spots in the top 11 are getting harder to find. This leaves Lawson in a rough spot to beat his projection this week.
