Aussie Rules Football Round 5 Best Bets, Picks and Predictions
Gold Coast Suns (-24.5 on DraftKings) @ North Melbourne Kangaroos
Friday, 4/11/25 at 10:35 PM ET (7:35 PM Pacific)
The first Aussie Football Round 5 picks game to look at is the Gold Coast Suns against Melbourne. This is actually being played at Barossa Park, which isn’t a home stadium for either of these clubs. This will be the first-ever AFL clash at the venue.
Gold Coast is coming off a win, just squeaking by Adelaide, 91-90, propelling them to 3-0 (their first game with Essendon was postponed. Their first two games, they won by a combined margin of 145 points over West Coast and Melbourne.
The North Melbourne Kangaroos have lost three of four games this year. They upset Melbourne in Round 2. However, they lost last week to Sydney, 117-52, and to Adelaide in Round 3, 114-78. They also opened the season against the Bulldogs and lost 113-97.
Despite having their moment against Melbourne, the Kangaroos have shown a lot of inconsistency. They’re a young team and still working on finding their stride. Gold Coast, on the other hand, has been averaging 17 majors a game and has not had much inconsistency at all. They’ve been scoring at will.
This is a big spread, however, the Gold Coast Suns are the much better team.
Aussie Rules Football Round 4 picks for this match: Gold Coast Suns (-24.5)
Brisbane Lions (-12.5 on DraftKings) @ Western Bulldogs
Saturday, 4/12/25 at 2:15 PM ET (Friday 11:15 PM Pacific)
Next up on our list of Aussie Football Round 5 picks is the Brisbane Lions against the Western Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have been winning every other game. They opened with a win over North Melbourne. Then they lost Round 2 to Collingwood before beating Carlton. Last week they lost to Fremantle.
It’s been a different story for the Brisbane Lions, who remain undefeated. They had close wins over Sydney and Geelong and more convincing wins against West Coast and Richmond. They’ve seemed to start slow each game, which is why I like taking the under in this one as a bonus bet.
The Bulldogs are still dealing with some injuries, but they’ve at least stayed competitive. However, they haven’t played a team quite like Brisbane yet. They’ll continue to be without Marcus Bontempelli, although Sam Darcy has stepped in and played very well.
Brisbane is strong and dealing with very few injuries. The Lions are likely going to continue to be favorites in every game and continue to win games. This may be the best team they’ve had in years, and they’ve been a pretty good team. These two faced off last season in Round 13 with the Lions winning by 43. It’s hard to see a different result in this one.
Aussie Rules Football Round 5 picks for this match: Brisbane (-12.5), Bonus: Under 170.5
Essendon Bombers (-1.5 on FanDuel) @ Melbourne Demons
Saturday, 4/12/25 at 5:35 AM ET (2:25 AM Pacific)
The next game on our Australian Football Round 5 picks list is the Essendon Bombers at the Melbourne Demons. It’s been a rough start for both of these teams so far. Melbourne hasn’t notched a victory all year, and Essendon only has one.
However, even though Essendon only has one win, it was their last game against Port Adelaide. Perhaps that momentum will be able to carry through to this week. The last time these two played was in July of 2024, and Melbourne won. They’ve only won one game since then.
The bombers may have started slow, but after a win and a bye week, they should be ready to roll. It’s hard to see them losing this one, given that they’ve been a better team than Melbourne and are more rested. Something hasn’t been right with Melbourne, and until they make changes, we can’t wager on them, only against them.
Aussie Rules Football Round 5 picks for this match: Essendon Bombers (-1.5)
GWS Giants (-14.5 on DraftKings) @ St. Kilda Saints
Sunday, 4/13/25 at 1:20 AM ET (Saturday 10:20 PM Pacific)
The last game on our Aussie Football Round 5 picks is probably the one I’m most looking forward to. The GWS Giants take on the St. Kilda Saints in what should be a really good game.
St. Kilda dropped their first game against Adelaide before winning three straight against Geelong, Richmond, and Port Adelaide. The Giants are also 3-1, with wins against Collingwood, Melbourne, and West Coast. They dropped their Round 3 game against Hawthorn, 76-64.
St. Kilda has averaged 107.3 points in their last three games. Jack Higgins and Mitch Owens have played very well and led the team. Their game plan has really come together on the field, and they’re starting to look like a hard team to beat. All eyes will be on if their captain, Jack Steele, will come back from injury for this game. As of now, he’s questionable.
The Giants just had an 81-point win over the West Coast Eagles. Jesse Hogan led the team, but Tom Green and Latchie Whitfield also played very well. The Eagles aren’t the same talent that the Saints are, however, it was still a really good win.
The Giants have won the last two against the Saints. I think they’ll likely win this one, but I expect it to be a very close matchup. This should be graded closer to -12.5 in my opinion, and therefore, I have to ride with the Saints to cover.
Aussie Rules Football Round 5 picks for this match: St. Kilda Saints (+14.5).
