Handball -Bundesliga Betting Picks: Round 17

Handball is a popular sport overseas with several leagues in action around the globe. Not to mention a spot in the Summer Olympics.

The game is an exciting hybrid of basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. It’s fast paced with all the action, and physicality you expect to see in a hockey game only without the ice and the padding.

If you haven’t already, I highly suggest you check out a few matches on the Handball World YouTube page. You will not regret it.

Handball-Bundesliga is a German organization and is one of the many leagues currently in season. It’s also one of the many leagues being offered on several sportsbooks including Hard Rock and BetMGM.

The following Handball -Bundesliga Betting Picks: Round 17 odds are current as of 7 p.m. Pacific on December 23rd.

THW Kiel -4.5 Over TBV Lemgo (-120 via BetMGM)

Kiel is in a three-way tie for second place in the fixture with 24 points on the season. They have 12 wins and only 4 losses so far and have won their last nine matches overall including six in a row in Bundesliga play.

The German handballers have beaten their opponents by an average of 6.2 goals over their last six Bundesliga matches. They have covered this spread in two matches in that span, including a nine point victory earlier this week against SG BBM Bietigheim.

TBV has won only two of their last seven matches after starting the season with a 7-0-3 record. They have allowed opposing teams to cover this spread in each of their last four losses, losing by an average of 9.3 points in those defeats.

Kiel has beaten TBV in five straight matches in Bundesliga play. They have won by at least five points in two of them.

Hamburg Over Eisenach (+165 via Hard Rock)

Hamburg is holding on to the tenth spot in the standings with a two point lead over 11th place Eisenach. They are 3-1-1 over their last five matches and played fifth place SG Flensburg-Handewitt to a draw the last time they were on the court.

Their only loss in their last seven matches came at the hands of first place MT Melsungen who haven’t lost a match in Bundesliga in a month. They are averaging 30.4 goals per game in that span while allowing 30.1 to their opponents.

Eisenach has lost two of their last three matches in Bundesliga play. Their lone win in those contests was against VfL Potsdam who are winless this season. What’s concerning about that victory though, is that the five goal margin of victory was the smallest against Potsdam in their last six losses.

Hamburg has beaten Eisenach in their only two head-to-head meetings in the Bundesliga. In fact, the last time Eisenach has managed a win against Hamburg was in Round 9 of the 2019 2. Handball-Bundesliga league.

Gummersbach vs. Füchse Berlin Under 61.5 (-110 via Hard Rock)

Thursday’s final match features the league’s highest-scoring club as Füchse Berlin has amassed 549 goals in 16 matches this season. However, this week they will be facing a Gummersbach team that has allowed the seventh-fewest goals this year.

VfL Gummersbach has allowed an average of 29.4 goals per game this season. They have combined for at least 62 points in just two of their last seven matches in league play.

Füchse Berlin also poses a threat defensively allowing 464 total goals in 16 matches averaging 29 conceded goals per match this season. This will play well into the Under as Gummersbach has only scored more than 30 goals once in their last five contests.
