Aussie Rules Football Round 2 Best Bets, Picks and Predictions
Adelaide Crows (-10.5) @ Essendon Bombers
Friday, 3/21/25 at 10:20 PM ET (7:20 PM Pacific)
First up in our Aussie Football Round 2 picks is Adelaide at Essendon. Adelaide looked very strong last week against St. Kilda. I thought it would take longer for the team to build chemistry and build momentum.
However, they look like a very strong team that is ready to compete this season. Essendon on the other hand took a tough loss to Hawthorn. Now, Adelaide hits the road to play Essendon in a game they should be able to win easily.
While Essendon didn’t look terrible last week they will now be without their top defender Jordan Ridley due to a concussion. They’ll also be without leading goal kicker Kyle Langford due to a hamstring injury.
Adelaide proved it may not matter if they deal with injuries this season. They had 12 individual goal kickers, including six who kicked multiples. For those unfamiliar, that’s quite an accomplishment in this league. Darcy Fogarty had four goals and Riley Thilthorpe had three.
Interestingly enough, these two haven’t played each other at Essendon’s home field since 1995. The Crows haven’t won at this venue for quite some time. However, they showed last week they’re a completely different team this year. They have a chance at making a deep run for the Championship.

Richmond Tigers @ Port Adelaide Power (-41.5)

Next up on our Aussie Football Round 2 picks is Richmond at Port Adelaide. Things couldn’t have gone worse for the Port Adelaide Power last week as they lost by 91 points to Collingwood. They had production from their top players like Connor Rozee and Ollie Wines, however, they struggled to find any production from many others.
Meanwhile, Richmond slipped past Carlton 82-69. It was a comeback win against their rivals that showed both tenacity and skill. It was a surprise win to most and they’ll have to work hard to repeat the efforts on the road against the Power.
This feels like a good situational bounce-back spot for Port Adelaide. They were beaten badly last week. However, playing at home against a team they’ve beaten in the last five matches can give them the confidence to bounce back.
However, 41.5 points certainly seems like a lot of points for a team that just lost by 91. I expect them to win, but I don’t expect them to win by 41.5. Therefore, I have to ride with the Tigers spread on this one.

Melbourne Demons (-16.5) @ North Melbourne Kangaroos

Next on our Australian Football Round 2 picks is a Melbourne showdown between the Demons and North Melbourne Kangaroos. Melbourne is coming off a three-point loss to GWS. North Melbourne lost by 16 to the Western Bulldogs.
North Melbourne is a young team that is working on findings its way. Despite losing last week there was a lot of encouragement for the Kangaroo fan-base as their young team stayed competitive. However, the Bulldogs were without some key players, which allowed the game to stay close.
They’ll now be without two of their better defenders. Griffin Logue is out due to a hamstring injury and Jackson Archer is out due to a suspension. They already ranked last in the league in intercepts in Round 1 and Melbourne should be able to take advantage of that.
The loss by the Demons felt like an unlucky one and I think they bounce back here. They’re more experienced and more talented.

Sydney Swans @ Fremantle Dockers (-7.5)

The last match on our Aussie Football Round 2 picks sees the Sydney Swans on the road against the Fremantle Dockers. This should be the game of the weekend as both of these teams are considered two of the better teams in the league.
However, it comes as a surprise that they’re both looking for their first win of the season. Fremantle was picked apart by Geelong last week losing 147 to 69. Their defense was terrible and their coach, Justin Longmuir, took the blame for not having the team prepped properly.
The Swans, on the other hand, had a very close loss to Brisbane in the Grand Final rematch. They lost by four points. A loss like that to a team that’s become a rival can either motivate the team to bounce back or it can destroy their confidence.
This should truly be a back-and-forth game and if you get to watch one this weekend, I’d recommend watching this one. It’s also the hardest to pick in our Aussie Football Round 2 picks. It’s hard to picture either of these teams 0-2 and you have to wonder which one is more desperate. I think Sydney will surprise everyone this weekend on the road.
